The inspiration for artists, authors and poets for centuries, the Lake District has some of the finest scenery and vistas in the country and is a cultural haven for those just wishing to get away from it all.
Standing on the shores of Windermere, Langdale Chase has been welcoming visitors since 1891. Following a careful and sensitive restoration, you will discover a new era of laid back luxury and style.
Do as much as you wish, or, of course, kick back and fine tune the art of doing absolutely nothing.
‘This classy Victorian villa turned into a hotel in the 1930s and quickly became the place to stay in the Lakes. After a year-long renovation, the grade II listed landmark is back to its maximalist best.’
“My boat, the MV Albatros, a 50ft-long varnished teak beauty, built in 1928, is moored at the lake’s Langdale Chase hotel for use by guests. It would, however, look equally at home in the Italian lakes – and it certainly brings a touch of la dolce vita to Windermere, without the expense of going to L’Italia.”
“It’s a celebration of the best of the Lake District. Edna Haworth would be proud.”
“I found a five-star gem in the Lake District that won’t stay a secret for long.”
“One thing is for sure, a stay at Langdale Chase wouldn’t be complete without an afternoon tea.”
“On a sunny day, its stone-balustraded terrace overlooking the lake is a scene stealer.”
“The Langdale Chase is Windermere’s most glamorous lakeside hotel.”
“The best address on the lake.”
“The two AA Rosette restaurant is a panoramic feast for the senses – a place to admire the beauty outside and in.”
“The most romantic of the rooms is the Boathouse, which sits over the lake and has a rooftop terrace, and a copper tub for post-hike soaks.”
“Looking out of over the lake in this incredible part of the country, at this wonderful hotel, we could only agree with Wordsworth – it really is ‘the loveliest spot that man hath ever found.'”
“The location is perfect; private enough to feel exclusive, yet close enough to visit the nearby towns of Ambleside and Bowness.”
‘Reopen after a year-long revamp, interiors are more cossetting than ever, and its 30 bedrooms (with lake or fells views) have earthy brown and lake-blue palettes alongside wallpapers blooming with curling florals and leaf motifs’
‘Sipping champagne on arrival in the main hall set the bar high. It barely wobbled thereafter.
Landgale Chase throws down the gauntlet in its room, many of which have jaw-dropping lakeside vistas.’
‘The hotel is more easy-going than many in the area.’
‘taking it back to the feel of a private home, brightening up the drawing rooms and adding bold Arts and Craft-y carpet’
‘Langdale Chase has the peachiest waterfront spot on the country’s most famous lake.’
‘Looking out over the lake in this incredible part of the country, at this wonderful hotel, we could only agree with Wordsworth – it really is “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found”.’
‘When sitting in the two AA Rosette-awarded Dining Room over a scrumptious, sculptural dinner, it feels as if you’re suspended above the water; and if you don’t have time to stay overnight, at least visit for afternoon tea or lunch.’
‘The decor is grand and luxurious yet homely and comfortable and the view from the bedroom window showcases the four and a half acre grounds and famous water.’
‘Langdale Chase started life in the very highest Victorian pomp, now transformed by owner Daniel Thwaites into a vision of contemporary, relaxed luxury.’
‘Langdale Chase is a warm, inviting, almost magical hotel designed to recharge exhausted batteries, where you can eat and drink like royalty and get back to nature.’
‘Whether enjoying a book in the reading room, devouring afternoon tea in the conservatory or embarking on a lake cruise, there’s plenty to do.’
‘The sandwhiches, savouries and fancies were a work of art and the afternoon tea was the best I’ve had (and I’ve had a few)’
