Christmas & New Year
Christmas and New Year has always been an extra special time at Langdale Chase. Edna Howarth, who built the house in 1891, held legendary gatherings for her staff and friends. It was the highlight of the year; a chance for the great and good of Windermere to make merry and enjoy the finest food and drink in the most beautiful surroundings – she set us a high bar.
This year we are hoping for a dusting of snow on the distant hills and that Father Christmas hasn’t forgotten us whilst we have been closed for renovations – we have had to send him a message to remind him we are still here.
With Edna in mind, we will be taking Christmas to a new level this December – the fires will be crackling, warming every corner of the hotel; our hall will be decked with holly ready to receive our carol singers; our tree will be groaning under strings of glowing lights; the mulled wine and mince pies are waiting and the kitchen team will be working overtime to blow the lights out.
Our team are ready for you, filled with festive cheer to make this Christmas unforgettable.
Christmas. Beautifully Packaged at Langdale Chase
In Victorian times, Mrs Edna Howarth built Langdale Chase. For many, the highlight of the year was the spectacular Christmas Gathering. A century later, the tradition is reinstated in equally unforgettable fashion as we celebrate in style over three nights.
Christmas Eve
Welcome to your Christmas at Langdale Chase, a time to join in as much or a little as suits you. Arrive at any time from 1pm to give yourself plenty of time to settle in, explore the hotel and find your feet.
Do join us in the Main House for your festive afternoon tea and a glass of mulled wine. Spend time getting some fresh crisp winter air, or simply relax by the fire, read a book or play a board game before getting ready for the evening.
Evening drinks set off proceedings, a glass of champagne and canapés wait for you before moving to the Dining Room for a five course dinner extravaganza- a fine dining journey created by Chef Michael just for the night. Renowned swing singer Jay Irving will help build the Christmas spirit with classic favourites before you retire to the bar for a night cap.
Christmas Day
As dawn breaks over the snow capped Langdale Pikes, we welcome the magic of Christmas.
Start the day with a glass of Champagne or Bucks Fizz and our special Christmas breakfast. Take your time, linger a bit before heading back to your room to open your gifts, or better still bring down your stocking to the lounges to open them by the fire – today is all about the festivities.
A Christmas morning stroll around the private gardens offers the chance to take in the tranquillity of Lake Windermere and the amazing setting.
From midday, harpist Sarah Greenall will perform in the hall before you join us in the panoramic setting of the Dining Room for a spectacular seven course Christmas Day lunch.
Carefully planned by Chef Michael, making the most of the finest Cumbrian produce, this is the highlight of the day. Wine pairings from the cellar or the sommelier’s selection are available for you to choose from*. The King’s Speech will be available to watch at 3pm.
In the evening, a gourmet platter supper will be served whenever suits you. If you have epic powers of endurance our extravagant cheese trolley and desserts are there to help round off an unforgettable day.
